During Repair Days, Metalsmiths from all over the country volunteer their time to travel to Memphis and turn the National Ornamental Metal Museum into a giant repair shop for busted metal items of all kinds.
Here’s how it works: you bring your broken, dented, bent, dull or otherwise defective metal item to the National Ornamental Metal Museum between now and Saturday evening. The smiths will have a look at it, give you an estimate for how much it will cost to fix and take it for the weekend. On Sunday, you can pick your items up. The proceeds from the repairs will benefit the museum, which is the only one of its kind in the U.S.
On Saturday, the museum is hosting a special day of family activities and demonstrations during the day with an auction, talk and dinner (of famous stew) at night. No matter when you go, hang on to your repair receipt – it’s good for free admission to the museum.
